When Liftgate/Boot Lid Cannot be Opened
If the vehicle battery is dead, the liftgate/boot lid cannot be unlocked and opened.
In this case, the liftgate/boot lid can be unlocked by taking care of the dead battery situation.
Refer to Jump-Starting (Search).
If the liftgate/boot lid cannot be unlocked even if the dead battery situation has been resolved, the electrical system may have a malfunction.
In this case, the liftgate/boot lid can be opened using the following procedure as an emergency measure.
(Hatchback)

Perform the procedure using a cloth to cover sharp edges which could injure your hands.

Perform the procedure carefully when using a flathead screwdriver as it could cause damage to the surrounding area or vehicle parts.

Fold down the rear seatbacks.
Refer to Split/One-piece Folding the Seatback (Search).

Pull the centre section of the plastic fastener and remove the fasteners, then remove cover on the interior surface of the liftgate.

Using a flathead screwdriver, open the inner cover.

Using a flathead screwdriver, turn the lever to the right to unlock the liftgate.
(Saloon)

Open the cover.
-
Move the lever to the left to fold the seatback.

Move the lever to the left to open the boot lid.
After performing this emergency measure, have the vehicle inspected at an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer as soon as possible.
