If the battery is dead, the liftgate/boot lid cannot be unlocked and opened.
In this case, the liftgate/boot lid can be unlocked by taking care of the dead battery situation.
Refer to Jump-Starting (Search).
If the liftgate/boot lid cannot be unlocked even if the dead battery situation has been resolved, the electrical system may have a malfunction.
In this case, the liftgate/boot lid can be opened using the following procedure as an emergency measure.
(Hatchback)
Wrap the end of a flathead screwdriver in a cloth and remove the cover on the interior surface of the liftgate using it.
Turn the lever to the right to unlock the liftgate.
(Saloon)
Open the cover.
(With theft-prevention cover)
Open the cap.
(With theft-prevention cover)
Turn the screw anticlockwise and remove it.
(With theft-prevention cover)
Remove the theft-prevention cover.
Move the lever to the left to fold the seatback.
Move the lever to the left to open the boot lid.
After performing this emergency measure, have the vehicle inspected at an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer as soon as possible.
