When Liftgate/Boot Lid Cannot be Opened

If the vehicle battery is dead or there is a malfunction in the electrical system and the liftgate/boot lid cannot be opened, perform the following procedure as an emergency measure to open it:

(Wagon)

1. Remove the cap on the interior surface of the liftgate with a flathead screwdriver.

    

   

2. Turn the lever to the right to unlock the liftgate.

    

   

(Saloon)

1. Open the cover.

2. (European models)

   Open the cap.

    

   

3. (European models)

   Turn the screw anticlockwise and remove it, and then remove the inner cover.

    

   

4. Move the lever to the left to fold the seatback.

    

   

5. Move the lever to the left to open the boot lid.

 

After performing this emergency measure, have the vehicle inspected at an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer as soon as possible.
